Lamp Arts, as a company, has been in business for over 50 years. Originally known as Briarcliff Lamps, the business was located at Peachtree Creek on Peachtree Road in Buckhead. Many Atlantans still have shades in their home with the Briarcliff label.
Bob Snypp, who acquired the business in the 1960’s, eventually moved to East Andrews Drive in Buckhead and renamed the company Lamp Arts, Inc. Scouting the local antique and trade shows, Bob extended services to many of Atlanta’s top antique dealers and designers. An exclusive Snypp lamp line was developed during the 1970’s garnering several design awards.
The business re-located to Howell Mill Road in Westside Atlanta in 1985 into the Atlanta Antiques Exchange Building and in 2003 to its current location at 1465 Howell Mill just north of the Waterworks. Bob retired in 2004 to fish the waters of South Carolina. Bo and Tina Thompson, as new owners, continue to expand the business with a larger assortment of restored antique chandeliers and both vintage and contemporary lamps, in addition to the custom work Lamp Arts is known for.
